Beauty Blogger Headquarters: November

I recently came across the new group, Beauty Blogger Headquarters, which is a little spot for beauty bloggers to go and meet others, get some tips, etc.  Each month a task will be posted which members complete, so here is the November task!

In the Beginning

How long have you been blogging?
I've been blogging for well over a year now, it was difficult balancing school (I was a junior in college when I started it) and writing...but after a while I definitely got the hang of it!

Who or what inspired you to start blogging?
I've always been told I'm a pretty good writer and since I love beauty and fashion I figured I'd just combine the two!  I've been reading New York Magazine's The Cut blog for years now, so I would have to say that was my main inspiration...and then seeing how famous beauty/fashion bloggers Elle and Blair have basically created an empire, I realized I could at least start beauty blogging and wait and see where it took me!

Did you tell your family and friends about your blog?  If so, what was there reaction?  Are they supportive or "in the dark" about your blogging?
Both of my parents are extremely supportive of my blogging!  I was writing a couple of months before I told them, but I never thought they wouldn't support me.  I'd like them to think if I'm spending all this money on these products, and then writing about them, then maybe it's not such a big deal! Just kidding =]

Anddd, my friends have been just as supportive!  I've had many girls I know, but not that well, tell me they love my blog when they see me post on Facebook and Twitter.  I've even had girls in my classes mention something to me about it when they see me writing in class (you can get away with that in undergrad...grad school...not so much).  Whenever a friend mentions something about my blog, it really means the world and keeps me going!

What goals or dreams did you have for your blog when you first started?  Have you accomplished them?
To be honest, I didn't really have any goals or dreams when I first started...I know, probably completely opposite than everyone else.  But really, this isn't my "career" and I don't intend on making it one either, my blog started out as a hobby and I want to take it as far as I can, but it's not going to be the end of the world to me if I'm not featured in Glamour or Allure anytime soon.

I've definitely been starting to think about some goals though, nothing too serious, just little milestones I want to accomplish!  I want to do more giveaways, and definitely do guest blogging as well as feature guest bloggers.  Since I'm living in the D.C. area I also really need to start incorporating my social life here into the blog as well, I sometimes do, but I go to so many events, I need to do more!!

If you could give your beginner-blogger-self one tip of advice, what would it be?
Write posts ahead of time!!  My biggest problem when I first started was that I'd run out of things to say and topics to write on.  Now I make sure I do things days ahead of time, rather than the night before or day of.  Also, make sure you interact with other beauty bloggers, it's so important to be a part of the community, something I'm still kinda working on.

What is your favorite and least favorite thing about being a blogger?
Hm, my favorite thing about being a blogger is sharing what I'm thinking about certain products, fashion shows, etc. with others.  I can say it to my friends, but who doesn't want the entire world to know what they're loving this week?!  It's really been fun to blog too, I've never been burdened by it (probably because I'm much less serious than other bloggers, and kudos to them for having that awesome passion)!

My least favorite thing is...I really have no idea.  I guess sometimes I get frustrated when I go somewhere and forget to take pictures, sometimes I feel I don't focus as much as I should be!

What does your blog name mean?  How did you decide on it?
My blog name, Love.Life.Beauty., are three things I love and words I use in my own personal mission statement.  You need love and life to have beauty, and that goes far beyond loving and living for the new Urban Decay Naked Palette or Essie polishes.

PS: Thank you to Beauty Blogger Headquarters for creating this group!!

  2. Great tip on writing ahead of time! I try to do this, but I'm afraid I don't do it as often as I should.

    1. I'm still not super great at it, but if you take a Sunday afternoon and just go at it for a few hours, you'll be surprised by how much you get done!!

  3. Oh yeah! I love the tip on writing blogs ahead of time! Why didn't I think of that? Haha. I'm a writer by nature so I can write forever so a prewritten blog post might help me keep my posts to a minimum. Haha. I usually sit down and think of something and write as I go along. Loved your post. New subbie here :) BBHQ.
